Job Summary

Flame Pharma are currently recruiting a Scientist on behalf of our client to be based in Riccarton, Scotland. The successful applicant will be responsible for the execution of in vitro metabolism investigation in support of the company’s DMPK department at the required standard and timelines. They will also be responsible of the development of in vitro metabolism assays in order to assist in the discovery and development of new chemical entities. They will represent the company at group meetings and at external meetings and conferences.

Background

Our client provides a range of services to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industry to facilitate the efficient development of new chemical entities. DMPK (drug metabolism and pharmacokinetics) is an integral part of this service, assessing the effect of the body to the new chemical entities. The DMPK facility conducts research in an environment that ensures the highest possible welfare standards, exceeding legislative requirements and driving forward innovation and best practice. The DMPK facility investigates the absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion route of new chemical entities. Associates assist with animal related procedures, sample analysis, data elaboration and interpretation as required.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the development and performance of in vitro ADME assays for the investigation of drug-drug interaction.
  • Participate in the preparation, execution, sample analysis and data interpretation of in vitro induction, inhibition, isoform ID and profiling using hepatocytes, microsomes and other in vitro tools.
  • Evaluate and interpret data generated during drug-drug interaction studies and provide a comprehensive study reports.
  • Collaboratively interact with customer.
  • Represent Company at Group meetings and at external meetings and conferences.
  • Provide strategies and tactical input into study design, methodology and protocol development of in vitro ADME studies.
  • Develop and be responsible for scientific expertise on the in vitro ADME studies.
  • Collaborate with line manager, peers and colleague in all area of preclinical to ensure delivery of in vitro ADME studies.
  • Responsible for the training of direct subordinate and other member of DMPK staff with respect of in vitro ADME studies
  • Responsible for the maintenance and development of analytical instrumentation, including LCs, Mass Specs and liquid handling

Qualifications and Experience

  • Degree in a Life Sciences or related discipline.
  • Able to conduct independently drug-drug interaction studies and discuss the data with the client.
  • Relevant experience with induction, inhibition and isoform ID studies, will be able to extrapolate data from in vitro to in vivo.
  • Relevant experience in cell culture: hepatocytes isolation and short term culture for induction study.
  • Relevant experience of HPLC, LC-MS/MS analysis and liquid handling.
